My 3 month old son suffered from terrible bouts of gas, fizziness and chronic constipation. A pediatric ND recommended changing to Alimentum by Similac which has the proteins already broken down to the amino acids so is easier to digest. While sad to leave the organic formula, and sadder that the alimentum is too thick for adoptive breastfeeding through the supplementer I'm more than happy with the results- He's a new baby now.

Thank you for your comment. Contrast hydrotherapy (alternating hot and cold packs) can be more effective at soothing pain and promoting healing than heat or ice alone. Using heat can provide some comfort for most earaches (which tend to be caused by allergies or viruses). When there is active inflammation and fever, ice can be more soothing.

On the topic of Vitamin D, the importance of vitamin D in the development of cancer was further confirmed by a Sylvia Christakos, Ph.D., of the UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. Her research, published in The Journal of Biological Chemistry, showed that the active form of vitamin D induces the creation of a protein that can stop the growth of breast cancer cells.

Most of the Children's probiotics I recommend come in a powder form or chewable capsule for older children. Opening up capsules and mixing with yogurt, applesauce, or some other cold liquid is a perfecty acceptable way to administer the probiotics. Not all of the bacteria will be destroyed by the stomach acid, and bacteria that normally inhabit the intestines are tolerant of more acidic conditions in general (since bile and digestive juices are all acidic).

I was on my way to visit a friend who is in a coma at the hospital subsequent to a car accident. While driving a couple of miles I was able to realize about how relevant it is to tell your loved ones every single day how much they mean to you and the significance of life in general.

Sara--thanks for the comment. As a physician, my primary role is to educate patients and provide the information they need to make INFORMED choices. I have many parents in my practice who choose not to vaccinate their children and I do not preach at or scold these parents for making that choice. I am always honest when I express my OPINION vs. what has been researched and supported with evidence. Being a Naturopath, I tend to attract clientele that are more likely to choose not to vaccinate their children based on fears rather than information. This is a practice I wish to end. Of course, the benefit of seeing a Naturopath for those who choose not to vaccinate, is that Naturopaths can offer advice on immune support and what to do if an outbreak of vaccine preventable illness occurs. The recent pertussis outbreak in California is an excellent example of why it is important to be armed with information and a plan if you choose not to vaccinate your children.

I wanted to thank you for publishing this. I happen to disagree with many of your conclusions but I really appreciate you being direct and honest about your opinions. I am looking for a doctor for my (unvaccinated) children and wish all doctors would be so honest about their own viewpoints so I can more easily find a doctor who will be a great fit for my family.
